My Favorite Band or Singer

Hi there. This post is about my favorite band. Lately, I'm being interested about music, so in my free time, I'm usually searching for bands. I like all genres of music, so I don't have a "favorite band". But everytime I have to answer that question I talk about Mauricio Redolés or The Wood Brothers. This is an English course so I'm going to talk about The Wood Brothers.

The Wood Brothers are a freshly Americana Band. They are a trio composed by the vocal/guitar guy, a bassit and a guy who plays... a "Shuitar". The Shuitar is a kind of Acoustic Guitar-Tambourine-Bass-Bongo Frankenstein instrument. Althought Shuitar has strings, this instrument is a Percussion one. It is the coolest instrument that I know.

Their style is Americana. Americana is the music which combines a lot of American's root, like Country, Blues, Rock, Bluegrass, etc. I like that, cause it is interesting how they can "mix up" that kind of music to create this new one. By the hand, they sound nice, and fresh. Even they have a cover for a Michael Jackson song.

I like Wood Brothers for many reasons. But the most important (and dumb) reason is because I like the southern accent. If I must give an accent to my English that will be the southern one (or the afroamerican one!) Maybe because I watched many cowboy movies in my childhood.

My Favorite Movie

I love to watch documentary and "short films" but I'm not good enough for watching movies so it is very difficulty for me to pick a favorite one. On the other hand I always remember a teacher who suggested me a movie: "The guitar".

The Guitar is a movie starring by Saffron Burrows (Known as "Andromache" in the film "Troy") She plays the role of  Melody Wilder, a woman who was diagnosed with a terminal ilness (cancer I guess). Because that Her boyfriend just broke up their relationship at the same time She was fired from her job. The story takes places in a loft (...a big one) where the girl decides to spend her last days (Two months). She lives off her credits cards, that's funny because she thought she never had to pay the money so she bought many things. She never got out of her room so in the movie she had two lovers, a lesbian one (the pizza delivery girl haha) and another delivery man (an old guy) who brings her the things she buys.

The movie is named "The guitar" because Melody Wilder had always wished for a guitar (since her childhood). After spending money and time in all her whims, she remembers that dream. She bought the guitar of her dreams and then, she learned to play guitar with a videotape class. Finally the doctor calls her  on the telephone (maybe she visited him... I don't remeber haha) and says to her that she won't die because she isn't sick. So she got seized by the Bank.

My favorite part is the end. She's playing guitar in a concert. The guitar and her dreams was the only thing that remains in the end and She archived the hapiness just with those things.

My Favorite Piece of Technology

¡Hello, World!

This is a difficult topic, because I like technology so much, it is a part of my life. But if I have to pick a favourite one I guess the winner is "the computer". My relatives (at least my male ones) love the computer: My grandpa is a computer programmer, my favourite Uncle is a computer engineer and my Dad attempt to get that grade but he failed. So, when I was a child they push me to that world. My first computer was a gift of my parents when I was two years old (two & half). It was a kind of "auto-gift" for the family, but they put it in my room so I treated that machine like it was mine. My Dad was working in the morning so, I must learn how to deal with it without his help.

I remember when I tried to install "Prehistorik" (a pre-historical game for DOS), I was alone in home and I didn't know how to install it... so I picked the phone, I called my Grandpa and said to him: "I can't install the game of the caveman, tell me how can I do that" My Grandpa just laughed and said something like he could go to my home and install that game for me in my PC but I was so obsessed to play it "right then" so my Grandpa gave me install instructions on the phone, and that was hard work because DOS doesn't have a visual interface.

I use the PC all day, everyday. If I'm not using the PC, it is on anyway, downloading something or processing some video. I use the PC for many activities:, for: "Chatting, Playing games, Design, Programming, Reading News, etc.". I don't know what my life would be like if I didn't know the computer. I think it's a very important piece of my life and my way to see the things. It was a period in my life when I didn't have many friends, because there in my neighbourhood the guys were mostly old people, older than me at least. So the Computer was a kind of "window" to see the world, to meet other people and learn so many things. It was the link between my family and have been the "panacea" for my questions (most of them ha ha).

My Subjects

Hi there guys ! This post is about my current subjects. It's not only about my public administration courses "of course". I'm going to write about my activities in general.

Last year I failed one course, because of my attendance (That was Administration Theory... so boring). So I have to enroll that course again but trying to make sure to register in other teacher's course. By the way, I'm doing five subjects beside that course: Public's Economy, English III, Organizational Design, Human Behaviour and Administrative Law. I'm not taking extracurriculars this year. I tried to sign up a sport course, but my timetable was a problem. So I've been cycling on the St. Cristobal's Hill everyday in the morning.

Anyway... I'm not worry about the extracurriculars because this year I have many projects! My friend and me are part of the University Radio: Frecuencia Inapina. We're working in two activities: A Photo Contest and a new program. This last one is my first experience like as broadcaster, so I'm very excited about that. I want to broadcast about "emerging bands" in Santiago.

This new academic period is special. I hope to be able to work in my interest sphere, Cultural Management, or maybe to discover new areas. I don't know, but for first time in my university student life I feel like I want to come to the school and then just do many things.
